EXEMPT PERSONS.
All persons who are employed within the meaning of the National Health Insurance Acts come within the compulsory provisions of those Acts, including married women.
But any person who proves that he or she
(1) is in receipt of any pension or income of the annual value of £26 or upwards, not dependent upon his
or her personal exertions; or
(2) is ordinarily and mainly dependent for his or her
livelihood upon some other person; or
(3) is ordinarily and mainly dependent for his or her livelihood on the earnings derived from an occupa- tion which is not employment within the meaning of the Acts or
(4) has been only intermittently employed within the meaning of the Acts (.e., having been an insured person, has been employed for less than 13 weeks in each of the last two contribution years),
may apply for a Certificate of Exemption.
It is for the worker to decide whether or not he or she wishes to claim exemption.
Application for the appropriate form of claim should be made to the Ministry of Health, Insurance Department (Exemptions Branch), Bromyard Avenue, London, W.3. Postage need not be prepaid.
Where a claim is made and is allowed, the applicant receives an Exemption Book containing a copy of the Certificate of Exemption. The certificate ia current for a specified period, which is stated in the Book, and during the currency of the
